The class of 2023 NFL free agents is packed with talent. From quarterbacks to running backs and defensive standouts, this class is stacked.
Barkley
There are several great free agents on the market in 2023. That is including New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. He comes off an excellent season and has the talent to command a big contract.
He is one of the most dynamic and explosive running backs in the league. He is still in his prime and could command a top-five running back contract on the open market.
He can be a threat in the run game and is also good at blitzing the quarterback. He should be able to find a place on an NFL team in need of a stout defender.
Risner
Risner is a versatile offensive lineman. He has started every game for the Broncos since his rookie season. He has played both guard spots and can also play center.
He has solid footwork and can create creases with great body positioning. He also has a work ethic that will be appealing to teams looking for an upgrade at guard.
He has a lot of potential to be an NFL starter left tackle. He’d be a great addition to any team looking for a veteran option at the position. Risner is athletic and can pull laterally. To be an impact player in the position, he must demonstrate his ability to handle edge speed on the field.
Schultz
Dalton Schultz is one of the top tight ends on the free agency market. He’s proven over three years that he can be an effective pass-catcher at the NFL level.
He played on the Cowboys’ franchise tag last year. But he should be an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason. His value will be highly dependent on whether the Cowboys re-sign him or not.
The Cowboys will face a tough decision in the next few days with their franchise tag window opening. Will they use it on tight end Dalton Schultz or running back Tony Pollard?
Bates
Bates is one of the best safeties in the NFL, and teams will be lining up to sign him as he enters NFL free agency in 2023. He is a highly-brainy and versatile defensive back. Who has been extremely battle-tested in his career?
He has also been a great fit in Cincinnati’s defense. He has a high PFF grade at safety, and he is an elite route recognition and play-from-depth guy.
Atlanta is a good fit for Bates, as he has the potential to be a top-level leader in their defense. They currently have Richie Grant and Jaylinn Hawkins as starters. But they need more immediate production.
Dean
The 2023 NFL offseason kicks into high gear, and free agency is a busy time for teams. March 13 is the start of the legal tampering period. Which allows teams and free agents to begin negotiating.
There are a ton of great free-agent options at all three levels of the game this year. From big names to overlooked underrated gems. This is a strong market for defensive linemen. But not quite as strong in the offensive line department.
A true ball hawk, Gardner-Johnson has proven to be a valuable asset on the defensive side of the ball. He yielded a league-best six interceptions last season and will draw a lot of interest from NFL teams.
Ward
With a lot of key players set to become free agents this offseason. The San Francisco 49ers are in a position to upgrade their defense. Adding a cornerback could be the first piece of that puzzle.
Ward is the longest-tenured player on the 49ers roster. After losing his starting job to veteran free safety Tashupson last season. He has settled into a nickel cornerback role.
At 6-foot-1, he can play press-man coverage and is a great nose for the football. His versatility and savvy are highly valued by teams. He’s a logical fit in the San Francisco defensive backfield and will likely command a big payday.
